It’s time to warm up, Foodie Friends! There are definitely more cold days now than there are warm days so let’s get together to warm up with good food and great conversation.
ABOUT THE MEAL The Warm Up Winter Dinner will incorporate warm spices such as cloves, ginger, and cinnamon throughout the meal. We’ll start the evening off with a roasted butternut squash soup served with homemade bread. The warm spices are a perfect complement to the richness of the roasted butternut squash and prepares your palette for all the flavors to come.
Last Fall, I came up with my Summer into Fall Salad pictured below. I liked it so much, I decided I should create a salad for each season! Therefore, the Winter Salad incorporates jicama, a crunchy root vegetable, in with hearty greens and pomegranate seeds garnished with herbs and toasted pecans. My homemade cinnamon dressing will warm up the flavors of this salad. When you put these flavors and textures together, you get such a tasty salad that you forget it’s also quite healthy.
Now that your palette has been prepped, you’ll be ready to enjoy the braised duck and pear halves. This will be served with a wild rice and cranberry pilaf. Within the poultry family, duck is definitely one of the more rugged members and that’s why I decided to go with wild rice rather than some other rice variety. You’ll find that this combination of sweet and savory blends well with the rugged textures.
And lastly, dessert will be a surprise. But, I promise not to disappoint! For sure, it will be something that encompasses the warm spices that will be present throughout the meal.
Remember, this dinner is BYOB. You are encouraged to bring your own alcoholic beverage. Filtered tap water and an assortment of hot tea tea will be available.
